How about using the Arduino's 16-bit or even 8-bit timer/external interrupt to measure the frequency? If I understood correctly the frequency counter puts out an analog voltage sensor and the Arduino's ADC is not the most accurate... Anyway a great video once more!

Im impressed that ü made this work. I know that 670cc engine can put out 50-60 horsepower, if a perfect 6 speed transmission is used. The 1st 4 seater mini Cooper from 1961, only had a 50-60 horsepower engine in it, & could drive like normal. By using a 4 inch wide ram air intake tube behind the front grill pointed directly forward & downward between 15°-20°, then attache the other side of the tube, directly to the engines air filter intake, & the power of that 670cc engine will more than double, possibly reaching speeds of 65mph-80mph+, especially when using a large k&n airfilter. There is a new style engine just like the 670cc, that is the same shape but stands taller & wider, & is blue @ 999cc. It is much more powerful than the 670cc. Try it the same way as this video

Just configure a wide diameter pvc or rubber tube ram air intake, about 3-4😢 inches in diameter, that sits behind the front grill , then feed the other end on over in2 the engine air filter input side. Secure everything. When done properly, the engine speed, & power will more than double+.

The ultimate in tinkering video series. You know, it would be possible to programme the car so it could sense when it’s doing an emissions test and the engine could automatically go into a low emissions mode to pass the test! And then revert back to rolling coal settings once back in the real world. Brilliant

You can use one hardware timer and interrupt witch only 1 line code to measure RPM. Other calculations to RPM can be in another place in the code. Atmega328 is enought powerfull to measure rpm and more more.

That is actually really cool and with the right engine you could actually make it a daily driver and save a ton on gas. Heck you might even be able to put the back seat in again.

Instead of using a hardware trigger, set a value in the software that it monitors and you avoid the interrupts.

Hi Jim. Any way to swap out the fuel injection pump for a unit from a Kubota tractor that isn't a fixed speed engine? This would eliminate all the issues surrounding the fuel rail limiter and allow a more conventional pump timing control. It would also get it away from the area of such tight tolerances where the screw is located. Shawn

Regarding the frequency counter stuff, can you not configure a gated hardware counter to count the cycles in a given time? And that way, you'd either get an interrupt periodically with a speed or be able to poll the register when you wanted to know?
